What health care plan is good for someone with a small budget and that is new to health care?

May 16th, 2009

Hello everyone, i am a 22 year old male that is looking for a health care provider for low cost. i don’t make a whole lot of money, i would like to pay a minimum of 100 dollars a month. I don’t currently have a job but i will soon. I am on Unemployment for the time being, do to being laid off. 1. What are the prices i am looking for? What are things i need to know about health care, cause i am totally lost with it. Thanks and have a great day:)
You need to talk with a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. Insurance companies and the plans they offer will vary from state to state and the premium with any one plan can vary by zip code. At 22 if you are in good health you should be able to find a catastrophic plan for less than $100 in most states and a comprehensive plan shouldn’t be much more than $100. The agent will be able to explain what you need to know - there is not enough space here to tell you everything. You’ll need to know about the deductible, the co-insurance, the co-pays and what is covered with the co-pay, what procedures are and are not subject to the deductible, what is excluded from the plans, which doctors accept the plans, the different types of plans and how they operate, the prescription coverage if any, and much more. There is no extra charge using an agent.

What Is Health Care? - USA Healthcare Today

March 23rd, 2009

By:  Kenneth Hamilton

So What is Health Care?  For that matter, what is healthcare insurance all about?

The USA healthcare system is a total train wreck!  So, the answers to these questions, and solutions to the problems can not be easilly explained unless you have a basic understandiing (one that the average woman or man in the general work-a-day public would understand) of how it works (or supposed to work).

The USA Healthcare System

The answer lies in the way we have been SOLD Health care by the insurance companies and HMO’s.  Consider this; if you bought automobile insurance the way most people buy health insurance, you would have a policy to cover windshield wiper replacement, oil changes, oil filters, lube, transmission fluid and filters, tire rotation and balance, diagnostic tests, battery replacement, tune-ups, etc.. (O.K. Enough, you get the picture.)  How high would auto insurance premiums be?  Nevertheless, this is how health insurance is sold in the USA health care system.

We Call It Insurance, But That’s Not Healthy

  • The current system for paying the costs of health care in the USA is seriously flawed - that’s what the general public thinks, and you, I’m sure, agree.
  • Most efforts at improvement, however are aimed at tinkering with the present insurance based model.
  • Such efforts at improvement are likely to FAIL in the long run, because insurance is the WRONG MODEL - at least for part of the system.

What Is An Insurable Event? - From Traffic Accidents To Tornadoes

This is the Education Part - The General Definition

  • Is something that, First, is very unlikely to happen;
  • Second, will come without warning;
  • And Third, is something the person who is insured never wants to happen

Applies to such catastrophic health events such as Serious Illness or Disease & Injury (On the Job and Off).  It Does Not Apply To “Routine Health Maintenance”.  Yet the current way we pay for health care tries to cover both these needs;

Catastrophic insurance and Regular Health Care, in one system

This effort contains a built-in contradiction;

  • The insurance system works best when:  The fewest people use it (i.e. Make Claims)
  • The USA Health Care system works best when:  The most people use it (i.e. Get check-ups, tests and vaccinations)

THESE GOALS ARE TOTALLY INCOMPATIBLE

Health

Health

The second edition of Mildred Blaxter’s successful and highly respected book offers a comprehensive and engaging introduction to the key debates surrounding the concept of health today. It discusses how health is defined, constructed, experienced and acted out in contemporary developed societies, drawing on a range of empirical data from the USA, Britain, France and many other countries. The new edition has been thoroughly revised and updated, with new material added on health and identity, the ‘new genetics’, the sociology of the body and the formation of health capital throughout the life course. The topic is the concept of health, rather than the more usual emphasis on illness and health-care systems. Special emphasis is given to the lay perspective to show how people themselves think about and experience health. Blaxter guides students through all the relevant conceptual models of the relationship of health to the structure of society, from inequality in health to the ideas of the risk society, the ’socio-biological translation’ and the contribution of health to social capital. The book concludes with a comprehensively revised and thought-provoking discussion of the impact of new technology, the boundaries between life and death, modern commodification of health, technological transformations of the body and theories of evolutionary biology. Health is an invaluable textbook for students of medicine and other health professions as well as those studying sociology, health sciences and health promotion.
